Male very similar to male Orange-bellied Euphonia, but yellow more 'pure' (Birds of Peru). Female more uniform yellow-olive without the grey collar.

Note yellow neck all the way to the bill. The Thick-billed Euphonia is common and is more likely to be outside the forest than others.

Note lack of yellow in front on male. The female is described as yellow-olive, and having a light colored belly and grey nape.

Although found in many habitat types, semi-open dry habitats may be its favorite. Female uniformly colored with no grey.
