Genus: Anas (5 species, 31 worldwide)

Anas is a genus of typical 'dabbling ducks' that stay on the surface and feed mostly on plant matter that can be reached without diving.

Found at lakes in or near the paramo. Note dark brown-grey color and rufous (not blue) on wings when open. Male and female similar.

A widespread northern duck that has through hybridization and domestication spread outside of its historic range. Male Mallard has green head.
