Birds of Ecuador

    STRIGIFORMES: Strigidae (Owls)  
Genus: Glaucidium (6 species, 29 worldwide)

Genus Glaucidium, Pygmy Owls, are tiny owls, around 15 cm., which can be active day or night. All Pygmy Owls are usually being mobbed by small birds and hummingbirds.

Found in a narrow and wet altitude range around 1500m on the western Andean slope. Brown with spotted head (immature unspotted).
Believed to be an unspotted immature.
