Very similar to Austral Negrito, but usually found at higher altitudes (usually 2500 and up). The female is darker than the Austral Negrito. Differences in size and the male's back color can't be reliably seen in the field.

  The female Austral Negrito is lighther than the female Andean Negrito, and there is virtually no range overlap.
