A medium-sized 'empidonax' flycatcher with a 'nasal' call/song different than other flycatchers in its genus, and usually seen in marshy habitat (Cornell).

Northern migrant. The Alder Flycatcher and Willow Flycatcher are virtually impossible to tell apart, except by vocalizations.
