An amazing nest-builder. Note light colored eye. The Guianan Tyrannulet in northeast Brazil and the Guyanas was recently split from this species.

Described in 2001. Known from two locations, the white sand forest near Iquitos, and at the base of the Andes (see map) (Athanas).
