Genus: Megascops (4 species, 23 worldwide)

Genus Megascops, Screech Owls, are small owls, around 24 cm., which stay hidden during the day, and are usually only heard at night.

Vermiculated Screech Owl

  Comes in brown and rufous morphs. Vermiculated means marked by wavy lines.

The taxonomy of the Vermiculated Screech Owl is in flux and this release of IOC has it split into the [Choco Screech Owl] and [Foothill Screech Owl]. The Vermiculated is found from the middle of Panama north.
