One of several non-migratory versions of the Summer Tanager, sometimes grouped as the Hepatic Tanager. The Red Tanager is found in southeast South America.

Northern migrant. The immature male is yellow with blotches of red. Female similar to Scarlet Tanager but with lighter yellower wings.
