The White-tailed Hillstar, a large hummingbird on the western Andean slope (Chocó) is now called the Rufous-gaped Hillstar because of the rufous gape.

The White-tailed Hillstar in the eastern foothills is now called the Green-backed Hillstar so as not to confuse it with the old White-tailed Hillstar of the Pacific slope, now called the Rufous-gaped Hillstar.
