A medium to large slender woodcreeper which is almost totally barred horizontally. Some races in Brazil have less pronounced barring (difficult to see from distance). Compare to Black-banded Woodcreeper.

Similar to the Amazonian Barred Woodcreeper and Northern Barred Woodcreeper, but with vertical streaking on the throat. Can reach 2000m in the Andes, but is generally thought of as a lowland species.
