Colaptes is a genus of medium-sized woodpeckers most of which are often seen on the ground with dirt on their bills, and are often called Flickers.

A medium to large vocal woodpecker that, unlike others in its genus, rarely comes to the ground. Amount of yellow varies across large range, and nothern and southern populations may soon be split.
