An Andean hummingbird, usually found from 1000-2000m, but may go lower to confuse birders with other similar species. Overall green with a bluish tail and greyish patterned vent. Similar to Emerald hummingbirds, but emeralds have a green vent, and are usually slightly smaller. Compare also to Shining-green Hummingbird.

Also called Copper-tailed Hummingbird because of the tail color of the races in the mountains of Guyana and eastern Venezuela. Only viridigaster in Colombia and west Venezuela has a blue and not copper tail.
