Amazilia is the largest genus of hummingbirds, which are medium-sized with a medium-sized slightly decurved bill, and plain or slightly forked tails. Amazilia are usually seen outside of the forest. |
Not a 'chlorostilbon' emerald hummingbird, which are smaller and greener, but an 'amazilia', a large genus of medium-sized 'ordinary' hummingbirds. The White-chested Emerald has a black bill, and has a gold rump and tail (compared to [Plain-bellied Emerald]). Male and female similar. |

Note vertical white stripe in front. Larger than emerald hummingbirds in genus chlorostilbon. 'Birds of Venezuela' writes 'despite its name, a dull, undistinguished hummingbird'. Female a bit duller. |

Also called Copper-tailed Hummingbird because of the tail color of the races in the mountains of Guyana and eastern Venezuela. Only viridigaster in Colombia and west Venezuela has a blue and not copper tail. |
