Note black mark behind ear. Note white wing bars with black wing feathers with no edges. Compare to Plumbeous-crowned Tyrannulet.

Note yellow wing bars and yellow margins on wings, and plumbeous crown. Ear mark (behind and below eye) not as dark as on some similar species.

Split from the Rough-legged Tyrannulet which is found in southeast South America. Note small white forehead, grey head and thick yellow wing bars, and a pinkish lower mandible. Also note short bumpy sections on legs.
