Note slightly decurved thin bill. The male has a light blue gorget bordered with violet on the bottom. Smaller in size and with a smaller thinner bill than the Oasis Hummingbird but has similar coloration and occupies similar dry habitat. This species is the only one in its genus and HBW writes scientists are not sure of its taxonomic relation to other woodstars.
Male from back.
