    PICIFORMES: Galbulidae (Jacamars)  
Genus: Galbula (9 species, 10 worldwide)

Genus Gabula, typical Jacamars, are green jacamars around 22 cm.. All jacamars have sturdy straight bills and a hummingbird-like shape, and catch dragonflies and butterflies in flight.

Found in a narrow altitude range around 1400m on the eastern Andean slope. Note yellow eye-ring and blue crown. Male has green throat.

Rufous-tailed Jacamar

Widespread and relatively common. Often considered a large hummingbird by inexperienced birders. Sits on a perch in the open waiting for butterflies or dragonflies. Male has a bright white throat.
