Small and uncommon in mixed canopy flocks, and generally difficult to see well.

Seen in mangrove habitats. Could be confused with a Blue-grey Tanager. The 'minus' race is in a different habitat type along the Amazon river.

Found in the canopy of varzea forest along large rivers in the Amazon, usually in cecropia. Compare to similar Bicolored Conebill with similar habitat. Note one color breast and lighter color of back than Bicolored Conebill, and faster song. Immature is yellow-breasted.
