Small and uncommon in mixed canopy flocks, and generally difficult to see well.

Seen in mangrove habitats. Could be confused with a Blue-grey Tanager. The 'minus' race is in a different habitat type along the Amazon river.

Note that the 'fraseri' subspecies in Colombia and Ecuador is slightly larger and much browner than subspecies further south.
