Small size, light colored eye, and dry scrub habitat similar to Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant, but also found in dry forests. This species can reach up to 1,200 meters above sea level. Check vocal differences (different trill). Pale-eyed Pygmy Tyrant may be yellower in front (especially flanks) than the Pearly-vented (difficult to be sure about this). Also the base of the bill is a lighter flesh-color, and the head is less grey, and more yellow/green.
