Found at mid-range altitudes, sometimes with mixed flocks. Not skulking like most spinetails. Seems to adapt to degraded forest, so perhaps should not be listed as Vulnerable.

Found in tall grass on river islands in large rivers in the Amazon, often with the White-bellied Spinetail. Note dark sides compared to Red-and-white Spinetail
